Individual Singers and Choruses are invited to take part in the performance of Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, KV427, in the city where he was born and worked for many years. Singers and Choirs will perform alongside the Salzburg Cathedral Choir and Orchestra under the direction of Prof. Janos Czifra, the Musical Director of the Cathedral.

During the four days, experience Mozart as never before, in the city where he was born, made his mark on the musical world, rebelled against the narrow conventions of the Archbishop and which he has made famous the world over, long after his death.

PROGRAMME

Thursday 8th October 2009. Arrive in Salzburg and check in to your hotel. In the late afternoon, at a time when the cathedra is closed to the public, participants in the “Magic Mozart Moments” begin a special “Musical” tour of the Cathedral. This exclusive tour of the cathedral steeps you in music and history, emphasised by musical interludes on the organ. This evening there is an “International Get Together” of all participants with a buffet of Austrian dishes and Austrian Folk Music.
Friday 9th October 2009. Breakfast in your hotel. This morning take a tour of the City of Salzburg with a guide specialising in Mozart. Visit the house where Mozart was born, the Cathedral District and the monastery church of St Peter, where Mozart performed his great C Minor Mass for the first time. Following the tour, there will be a short lecture on how the C Minor Mass came to be composed. This afternoon there is a chorus rehearsal with Prof. Janos Czifra, Director of Music at Salzburg Cathedral. This evening enjoy a “Mozart Candlelight Dinner” in the restaurant at the Festung (Castle) Hohen Salzburg followed by a concert in the Furstenzimmer (Prince’s Chamber), the most magnificent room in the entire castle, with a glorious view of the city and its surroundings.
Saturday 10th October 2009. Breakfast in your hotel. Morning and early afternoon free. You may want to visit the Farmer’s Market in front of the Collegiate Church and the church (a Baroque jewel) itself. In the late afternoon is the dress rehearsal. Then at 7:30 pm –

With the choir and orchestra of the Salzburg Cathedral, plus singers from around the World, conducted by Prof. Janos Czifra.
Sunday 11th October 2009. Breakfast at your hotel. You may participate in the mass in the cathedral, singing Mozart’s “Missa Brevis in D Major, KV194”. Afternoon departure.
Prof. Janos Czifra is a native of Hungary and has been the cathedral music director since 1989. In addition to the normal services at the cathedral, he has led the cathedral choir and orchestra in events of international interest, including two papal visits, episcopal consecrations and jubilees, festivals of sacred music and symposiums. Invitations from abroad and numerous concert tours have led Prof. Czifra and the cathedral choir to the USA, Japan and many European cities. In 2002, he became a member of the European Academy of Science and Arts and was awarded the title of Professor. He very much values and enjoys the opportunities to work together with the many musical guests to Salzburg and the cathedral.
